Loretta S. Pace, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2012 at Arbors in Sylvania Nursing Home. She was born on March 3, 1920 to George and Martha Kolasinski Iwinski in Toledo, Ohio. She attended Notre Dame Academy. In 1941, she married Louis Szymkowiak. During WWII, Loretta worked as an inspector at the Toledo Jeep plant. The combat death of Louis in August of 1944 made Loretta a young widow and mother. In 1955, after 10 years as a single parent, she married Harry H. Pace after being introduced to him by a friend. Loretta and Harry lived for many years on Clark Street in East Toledo. She was a member of Good Shepherd Parish. Loretta was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother. For many years she was employed by the Lucas County Welfare Dept. She was, until recent years, also a member of Gold Star Wives, the Gulf Oil Retirees and the Lucas County Retirees Assoc. She is preceded in death by her parents and husbands Louis Szymkowiak and Harry Pace and brother Albert Iwinski. She is survived by her son, David Sandy; grandsons, Douglas and Mark Laurie and great grandchildren, Connor, Claire and Carson. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and how much she enjoyed a joke and a laugh. Friends and family are invited to visit from 3-8 pm Wednesday June 6, 2012 at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey. There will be a prayer service at 9:30 am Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Funeral Home followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 am at Christ the King.
