Lore Brigitte Barroso

d. December 22, 2010

Barroso Lori Brigitte Lore Barroso ne Mamlok, local volunteer, and long time resident of Toledo, died December 22, 2010, peacefully at home after a brief illness. Lore was born in Germany and moved to America in 1938. She graduated from Scott High School in Toledo and went on to earn her degree in History from Smith College, where she was affectionately known to her friends as Apple Annie for her love of apples. She met her beloved husband Jose Barroso while at college and had an exotic life in Havana, Cuba, where she started a family before moving back to Toledo in 1960. Lore and Jose moved extensively around the U.S. for his career, and Lore helped her family make a welcoming home everywhere they lived. They settled in Sylvania as a couple in 1983. A lover of art, Lore shared her passion with others as a Docent Emeritus at the Toledo Museum of Art for many years and as a docent at the Atlanta Art Museum before that. She was an avid reader, enjoyed entertaining at her home, and always loved a spirited discussion. Lore traveled around the world and Paris, France always held a special place in her heart. Lore enjoyed the outdoors and scenic hikes. She was a talented and competitive tennis player. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Lore is preceded in death by her parents, Ernst and Beate Bebe Mamlok, and her husband, Jose Barroso. She is survived by daughter Lisa Wahl; sons Carlos Barroso and Jeff Barroso; grandchildren Michael, Andrew, Parks, Maya Barroso and Meili Wahl; son-in-law Jeff Wahl, and daughters-in-law Kay Colbert and Laura Barroso. She also leaves behind many dear and devoted friends who will miss her strong sprit, compassion and intellect. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her name to the Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe. St., Toledo 43620. A memorial service will be held at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., on December 30th at 1:00 p.m. Her family will receive friends at an open house at her home immediately following the service.
