Lois Rubright, age 94, an independent woman of diverse talents and interests, died September 6, 2022, at Browning Masonic Community in Waterville.
Born in Hammond, Indiana, to Raymond and Anna Pennington, she lived much of her life in the Toledo area. She and her late husband, Roy, moved to Perrysburg in 1968, where their two sons graduated from Perrysburg High School. They moved in 1975 to the retirement home they built on Put-In-Bay.
Lois remained on the island after her husband died in the cash of his airplane. She worked for the Parker Boat Line.
She returned to Perrysburg in 1986 and was employed at the Andersons. She became involved in many community activities, serving on the City Planning Commission; the City Charter Commission; and the board of the Perrysburg Symphony Chorale. She was president and secretary of the Perrysburg Area League of Women Voters; president of the Perrysburg Arts Council; and chairman and treasurer of the Presbyterian Women’s Association. Lois also was a member of the New Century Club, a women’s culture organization that began in 1900. She was known for her skill in keeping business meetings running efficiently and on task.
The volunteer accomplishment of which she was most proud was co-chairing the Commodore Perry status project, sponsored by the Arts Council. The bronze replica was dedicated on Memorial Day, 1997.
Lois moved to the Browning Masonic Community in 2002 and became involved in volunteer activities there. She served on the board of the Waterville Historical Society and was a member of the Waterville Post 463 American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, reading and followed current events and politics closely. She was an ardent sports fan of Purdue University, where she had worked early in her marriage when her husband was a student there.
She is survived by her son, Kirk (Yvonne), of South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Sarah, of Richmond, IN; six grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; son, Kent; parents’ and two brothers.
There will be no services. The family suggests that anyone planning a memorial contribution may consider First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg, Browning Masonic Community, or Waterville Historical Society.
