Lois B. McCarty, 88, formerly of Genoa, Ohio, died Sunday, January 6, 2013, in the Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor, Ohio. Lois was born in Kentucky on August 25, 1924, to Allen and Bertha Wray Gaines. Lois owned and operated a beauty shop in Graytown during the 1960s, and prior to that she was employed at the Erie Army Depot in Port Clinton, Ohio. She was also a color consultant with Helene Curtis for several years and traveled for them throughout the Midwest. Survivors of Lois include her daughter, Jeneanne Robert Sharlow of Hartselle, Alabama, grandchildren, Scott Sheri Sharlow of Marion, IN, Shannon Beth Sharlow of Potomac, MD, great grandchildren, Meredith and Annika Sharlow, sister-in-law, Ardie Gaines Lee of Oak Harbor, and goddaughter, Dawn Dan Balduf of Curtice. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Robert Witt and Frank McCarty, brother, Glen Gaines, and sister Grace Knieriem. A memorial service for Lois will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013, in St. Johns United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington St., Genoa, OH 43430. Interment will be in the Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, OH. The family suggests that contributions in Loiss memory be directed to the church. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St. Genoa, OH 43430, is assisting the family with arrangements.
