Lois May Hanko, 85, of Catawba Island, passed away Saturday evening, October 3, 2015, at the Sarah Moore Community, Delaware, OH surrounded by her family. Lois was born May 1, 1930 in Cleveland to the late Adelaide C. (Straka) Joseph G. Kabelac. On June 30, 1951, at St. Charles Catholic Church, Parma, OH, she married Henry Hanko and he preceded her in death on January 23 1998. Lois and Henry owned an orchard on Catawba Island. She loved being outdoors, and tending to her gardens. Lois once said, “When I weeded, I thought I was taking the weeds out of my life.” Lois is survived by three daughters: Beverly (James) Syrowski, of Catawba Island, Heidi (Jeff) DeShon Nancy (Ronald) Havlice both of Columbus; grandchildren: Kimberly Koepke, Jim Syrowski, Ann Syrowski, Sam DeShon, Sarah DeShon, Hannah Pawlicki Noah Havlice; great grandchildren: Alice Valerie Koepke. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter: Rachel Deshon, and infant brother: Raymond Kabelac. Friends may call 2-4pm and 6-8pm, Tuesday, October 6, 2015 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 216 Washington St, Port Clinton. Prayers will be recited 10am, Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison St, Port Clinton, OH 43452.
