Lois J. Dewey, 91, of Oregon, died Wednesday evening, March 13, 2013, at the Genoa Retirement Village. Lois was born August 13, 1921, in Ossining, New York, to Edward L. and Clara M. Morehouse VanTassell. On July 29, 1950, in North Tarrytown, New York, she married James F. Dewey and he preceded her in death in 2003. Lois received her masters degree and taught school for 26 years retiring in 1978. She taught at Croton-On-Hudson, Putnam Valley and Walden schools, all in New York, and also at Oregon schools in Ohio. Just before she retired she was the head teacher for the Toledo State Hospital Adolescent Unit. Lois had an affinity for collecting Sebastian miniatures and mustard pots. Lois is survived by her daughters, Debra A. Russell Damschroder of Toledo and Sandra K. Gary Mohrman of Elmore, four grandchildren, Jennifer, Leslie Jason, Kristin Justin and Matt, and four great grandchildren, Madalyn, Natalie, Justin and Chloe. Her parents, husband, brother, Douglas VanTassell, and great granddaughter, Breanna, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 501 West St., Genoa. Interment will be private and take place at a later date in Lake Township Cemetery, Millbury. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials for Lois to the Alzheimers Association, 2500 N. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, OH 43615.
