Lois E. Chandler

September 12, 1928 — May 15, 2024

Lois Elizabeth Chandler, age 95 passed away peacefully at Swan Creek in Toledo, Ohio, on May 15, 2024. Lois was born on September 12, 1928, in Berlin, New Jersey, and was the oldest of 5 children born to Leaman and Katharine Lee.

After graduating from high school, Lois worked as a secretary at the Owens-Illinois plant in Berlin, New Jersey. It was here that she met the love of her life, James Hayes Chandler. They were married at Fort Riley, Kansas, on October 11, 1951, before Jim returned to military service in the Korean War. When life resumed after the war, Jim returned to work, and they were soon relocated to Toledo, Ohio. Lois and Jim celebrated 63 years together.

Lois and Jim travelled extensively throughout the world and spent many winters in Boca Grande Florida.

Lois was an avid sportswoman, participating in activities such as fly-fishing, cross-country skiing, golf and tennis. Over the course of her long-life Lois was a member of Highland Meadows Golf club, Inverness Country Club, Carranor Club, and Belmont Country club, where she excelled in golf and tennis. Although never achieving a single digit handicap Lois did have a hole-in-one, and she was a thirty-year member of Toledo Women’s District Golf Association.

Lois was proud of her impressive needlepoint and artwork, which she shared with many of her friends. She was also a great lover of dogs and had several standard poodles as well as her final cockatoo companion, Rufus.

Lois was a member of St Timothy’s Episcopal church where she served in many capacities but especially loved the Free Clothing Ministry.

Lois is survived by her brothers Lloyd “Bud” Lee of Philadelphia and Leaman Lee of Denver. Lois was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, her sister, Nancy, and brother, Thurston.

A special thank you to the staff at Ohio Living at Swan Creek for their kindness to Lois over these last 5 years.
