Lois F. Base, 77, of Genoa, Ohio, died peacefully Friday, September 9, 2016, in her home. She was born in Elliston, Ohio, on March 4, 1939, to George and Florence (Hansen) Weddell. She married Delbert E. Base in Luckey, Ohio, on August 24, 1957, and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2004. Lois loved nature and spent much of her time gardening, working around her pond and bird watching. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, playing euchre and scrabble, working on puzzles and working on genealogy for her family and other families as well. She shared her passion of making hand-loomed rugs with her mom and sister. Lois enjoyed working as a school bus driver for the Genoa Area Local Schools for 14 years prior to her retirement. She also worked at the former Plabell Rubber Co. and was a representative for Rawleigh and Avon. Lois was an active member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Genoa and very much enjoyed her many years of service to the church including the planning of the annual dinners. Lois had been a breast cancer survivor. Lois loved her family and enjoyed spending time with all of them. Those who survive her include her children, Diana (Mike) Pfaff, Cheryl (Tim) Berger, Joanne (Jay) Hellwig, Pam (Kent) Makin, Dan (Betty) Base, Bryan (Shannon) Base, Lori (Doug) Hitchen, grandchildren, Kelly (Craig) Morse, Krista and Tyler Hellwig, Jessica, Zachary and Nicholas Base, Jeremiah Berger, Christopher Pfaff, Taylor Hitchen, Bethany and Thaddeus Thallman, great grandchildren, Hunter, Raegan, Coy, Maliyah, Gage, Garrett and Gracie, sisters, Jane (Loren) Buhro and Jean Ackerly. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Jeffrey A. Base. A funeral service for Lois will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2016, in St. Johns United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington St. Genoa, Ohio. Interment will follow the service in the Elliston Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., Monday, September 19, 2016, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials for Lois be directed to St. Johns United Church of Christ or the Allen-Clay Joint Fire Dist. Station #36, 101 E. 6th St. Genoa, Ohio 43430.
