Loi Huynh, age 95, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026. He was born on December 31, 1930, in Vietnam, and was the beloved husband of Hung Tran, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.
Together, Loi and Hung built a loving family and raised eight children. Six of their children survive him, and he was also blessed with 15 grandchildren.
Affectionately known as "Uncle Chung" by his friends and students, Loi was a talented craftsman who was exceptionally skilled with his hands. He had a special gift for working with heavy metal and iron and was an expert in creating unique and beautiful sliding iron doors. He was also well known for making Vietnamese cyclo frames. Through his work, he taught and mentored many students, several of whom went on to establish businesses of their own.
Loi was a man of many talents and interests. He loved fishing, especially spending time on the water with his sons. He also enjoyed watching movies and sharing his thoughts and observations about the stories behind them. Loi especially enjoyed Cantonese-style foods, including roast pork, roast duck, and sweet-and-sour fried fish.
Although he could be strict, his family knew that his love was always present in his own unique way. He was a constant presence in their lives-a pillar of the family and, as one loved one described him, a "security blanket." Even as his children grew into adults, they never truly outgrew the comfort of knowing he was there.
One cherished memory reflects his calm and steady nature. When one of his children was in grade school, Loi would give rides to school. On days when they were running late, the child would anxiously plead, "Dad, can you ride faster?" He would calmly respond, "Don't worry, we will get there!" That quiet reassurance was characteristic of the man he was, steady, dependable, and always there for his family.
He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Hung Tran; his sons, Chi Huynh (Deceased) (wife, Trung Le, and children Hanh and Phuc), Phil Huynh (wife, Zhihua Yan, children Michelle and James), Minh Huynh (Deceased), and Bao Huynh (wife, Trang Nguyen and children, Dan and Henry); daughters, Thach Huynh (husband, Khoa Nguyen and children, Tammy and Minh), Lien Huynh (husband, Bao Luong and children, Kim and Quang), Yen Huynh (husband, Chuong Pham, and children, Linh, Chau, and Tran) and Lan Huynh (husband, Huy Lam and children, Vinh and Valerie).
Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 1-4 pm. The Funeral Service for Loi will be Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 10 am. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
