Lloyd Raymond Torp

Torp Lloyd Raymond Lloyd Raymond Torp, age 95, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. Lloyd was born March 3, 1915 in Detroit, MI to Christian and Edna Torp. He joined the Red Arrow Division of the Michigan National Guard at the age of 15 and rose to the rank of Sergeant by the age of 17. Lloyd loved participating in war game exercises in Grayling, MI during his service in the National Guard and served as a sector warden for the Department of Civil Defense during WWII. Lloyd and his wife, Eleanor raised their family in Roseville, MI then later in Mt. Clemens, MI. A former bus driver for Greyhound, Lloyd enjoyed a successful career in auto sales and also as superintendent of buildings and grounds for East Detroit Public Schools from which he retired in 1981 after 28 years. Lloyd was a former member of Rotary Club, Lions Club, Kiwanis, and the Christian Businessmen. A very strong and committed Christian, he joined McCord Road Christian Church after moving to Sylvania. As he aged, Lloyd would begin every morning with this question Im here, what do you want me to do today, God?. He maintained his sense of humor throughout his life and remained mentally sharp until his death. His hobbies included swimming, decorating, autos and golf. Lloyd is survived by his sons, Allan Margaret Torp and Dennis Linda Torp; daughter, Linda Jim Mackey; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Eleanor Torp in 1991, and Maxine Streicher Torp in 2004; son, Ronald Torp, daughter, Sharon Rider; four brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 2-8:00pm at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH where services will be held Monday at 10:00am.
