Lloyd Skip Perkins passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 in S. Pasadena, Florida. He was preceded in death by parents, Lloyd E. Perkins Sr. and Harriette Cassidy Perkins Smith, and Uncle Bernard Dorothy Cassidy. Skip was born July 18, 1947 in Newport, Vermont, but his family moved to Florida shortly after. He graduated from DeLand High School in DeLand, Florida. He attended Miami-Dade College on a full scholarship he won by writing an essay. He studied business, but mostly learned to love Cuban food. He was drafted by mistake during Vietnam, and re-enlisted, this time by choice, in the 1970s. Skip served in the National Guard 1967-1979 and active duty in the US Army 1975-1979 at Ft. Bliss, Texas. Skip will be painfully missed by his wife of 23 years, Jeanene; his cherished daughters Michele Chris Jackson and Lisa Douglas Nixon; Step-children Kelly Meinhart, Kerri Thad Stahly, Kory Meinhart, and Craig Jablonski; 10 beautiful grandchildren; Uncles and Aunts Clyde and Pauline Cassidy, Robert and Mary Lou Cassidy, and many cousins. Skip moved to Toledo to be the head of marketing at the former Hardy Dischinger, Co. in 1987 where Jeanene was also working. They married in 1989. They shared a love of the sea and Skip cherished their home away from home, Two if by Sea, plying the waters of Lake Erie, and when time allowed, wandering further into Lakes Huron, Superior, and Michigan. Skip took boating seriously, earning his pilots license to become a captain. They spent their summers in Sylvania, Ohio and winters in Florida, but were never out of sight of the water. Skip also enjoyed golfing and inherited his fathers love of music. Skip will be remembered by his family and friends for his legendary work ethic, his wicked sense of humor and his selfless kindness. Although he was successfully self-employed, he always referred to himself as just a peddler. Demonstrating his success was when his patented Fast Drop sprinkler fitting was commissioned for use in many commercial buildings, including the Lucas County Correction Center and for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Friends will be received at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey on Wednesday from 4-9 PM and again on Thursday after 10 AM where services will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be private. Condolences may be sent to the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
