Beloved father, son, brother and friend, Lionel J. Stober Lon, 82 years old, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on April 9, 2013. Lon was the son of David and Sid Stober and was raised in Detroit, MI. He was a proud alumnus of Michigan State and a 1st Lieutenant in the Army from 1951 to 1953. Lon raised his family in Toledo, OH and retired as a financial comptroller. He had a real passion for serving his community beginning with 20+ years volunteering for SCORE and sharing his vast knowledge of finances with new business owners as well as serving as the local manager for an IRS site preparing tax returns for countless individuals. Lon was a natural born leader as the president of his condo association for over 10 years. He was a very caring and compassionate person always putting the needs of others before his own. Above all, he always involved himself in every detail of his childrens lives leaving behind his legacy of the importance of family. Lon is survived by his 3 children, Jeff Sandy Stober, Penny Stober, Jane Stober Chip; and adored his grandchildren who called him Puppy: Mandy, David and Shannon; his sister, Harriett Robert Stone. He was preceded in death by the love of his life of 47 years, May Garfinkle Stober and his parents. Friends may visit the family on Friday April 12, 2013 beginning at 10:30 AM at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave west of Corey Rd where services will follow at 12:30 PM.
