Linda June Swemba sadly passed away on October 1, 2026 following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Linda was born on June 1, 1954, in Toledo, Ohio, to Thomas and Patricia (Taber) Basich. She attended St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Elementary School and graduated from McCauley High School in Toledo. She continued her education at the University of Toledo, where she studied early childhood education.
Linda was an ambitious and entrepreneurial woman who turned her passion for children into a successful business. In 1980, in her early twenties, she founded Calico Corners Day Care School in Napoleon, Ohio. Her vision and dedication led to the expansion of the business throughout Northwest Ohio, with locations in Defiance, Bryan, Perrysburg, Sylvania, and downtown Toledo. Through her work, Linda touched the lives of countless children and families.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Linda was actively involved in her community. She was a member of The Country Garden Club of America and served as President of the Perrysburg chapter from 2008 to 2010.
Linda had a beautiful spirit and a love for life that was evident in the way she lived. She gave generously of herself, often putting the happiness and needs of others above her own. Her presence brought comfort, her heart brought warmth, and her love created memories that will be treasured forever.
One of Linda's greatest joys was her love of horses. She adored Sundance, Jacob, and Mac, whom she loved to spoil with apples and carrots. She also had a remarkable fondness for rescuing animals from the barn, taking in so many over the years that there are simply too many to name.
Linda also loved cruising and traveling the world. Some of her favorite destinations included the Caribbean, the British Isles, Alaska, Poland, and the Mediterranean, among many others. She embraced the opportunity to explore new places and create lasting memories along the way.
Above all, Linda adored her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to spoil them, whether by giving them something they wanted, making sure they felt loved, or simply being there whenever they needed her. Linda had a special way of showing her love, and her family will forever cherish the countless ways she made each of them feel important and treasured.
For her beloved husband, John, Linda will always be the young girl he fell in love with at just 17 years old. She was the woman with whom he grew up and the wife with whom he shared more than 55 years of life, love, and memories. John had the privilege of watching Linda grow from the young woman who captured his heart into the devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother her family adored.
The life they built together and the family they raised will forever remain a part of Linda's legacy. As John faces life without his beloved wife, he carries with him more than 55 years of memories, a lifetime of love, and the knowledge that the woman who chose him so many years ago will always be a part of him. Their story began when they were young, but the love they shared and the family they created will continue for generations to come.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Patricia Basich, and her brother, Thomas Vincent Basich.
She is survived by her loving husband, John Swemba; her sister, Nancy (Tom) Baron; her brother, David (Diane) Basich; and her children, John Christopher (Rebecca) Swemba and Carey Lynn (Dennis) Jeansonne. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Dylan Thomas, Chase Russell, Genevieve Lee Jeansonne, John Elijah, and Ethan James Swemba, who brought her immeasurable joy and happiness.
We do not know how to say goodbye to Linda, and perhaps we never truly will. A love like hers does not end when life does. It remains with us, becoming a part of who we are. It lives on in her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and every heart she touched along the way.
We would give anything for one more hug, one more conversation, one more smile, and just one more day with her. It is often the little things we will miss the most-the moments that may have seemed ordinary at the time but now mean everything.
Our hearts are broken, and we are not ready to let her go. We will carry Linda with us in the memories we cherish, in the love she gave so freely, and in the pieces of her that will forever live within each of us. Though she is no longer by our side, she is now with Jesus in Heaven; her love, her spirit, and the beautiful life she created will remain with us always.
Visitation will be held on Saturday , October 24, 2026 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am in the Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary St, Perrysburg, OH 43551.
