Linda M. Murphey

May 25, 1949 — May 8, 2024

Linda Marie Murphey left us on May 8 to be with her Lord and Savior. Linda was an energetic and vivacious woman, a young 74 years. Just a few days shy of her birthday, Linda was born on May 25, 1949, to Paul and Connie Roemmele. Linda attended Central Catholic High School and graduated with a BA from Toledo University.

After graduation from UT, Linda went to work for Control Data as a Property Manager for a 250,000 sq. ft. facility in Downtown Toledo. As Property Manager, she was responsible for leasing space and offering business support services to tenant companies. Linda was very proud of her position with a Fortune 100 company and enjoyed her working relationships with her staff and clients.

In 1986 she met Jim Murphey who leased space in the Control Data facility. They fell in love and decided to get married in 1988. Upon the birth of their son James in 1989, Linda retired and became a stay-at-home Mom.

God blessed Jim and Linda with a full family. Following her third son, Linda gave birth to Paul Franklin in 1990. After giving birth to four boys, Linda was overwhelmed with a baby girl in 1992, Kathleen Janet. Prior to her marriage with Jim, she gave birth to two wonderful boys, Jimmy Paul in 1970 and Kevin Carrol in 1973. With these children, she was blessed with becoming a grandmother. Kevin has two children, Logan and Carley and Jimmy has one daughter, Cagney. All the children played sports at a very high level in high school and 4 of them played at a collegiate level.

The variety of athletics was wide for the Murphey family! Golf, track, cross country, basketball, soccer, and football. Linda loved going to sporting events on the weekends, travel teams, high school and College games. A highlight for both Linda and Jim was the State Championship in Football for Southview High School in 2009. Their son Paul caught the winning touchdown pass. It was a proud moment!

Linda’s Catholic religion was a very important part of her life. She was a faithful woman. She and Jim spent most weekends attending mass together on Saturday or Sunday mornings.

Linda was blessed with a special bond with her siblings, Mike, Paula and Tony. The intense love they had for each other was a solid foundation for the entire family. Linda also has a very large network of friends. Three of her friends have gotten together for vacations for years at Martha’s Vineyard at the home of Carol Kaminski Ritter. She had many friends from so many associations in the area and all of them were important to her.

After her children were school-age, Linda decided to get involved in teaching. Going back to her roots, she went to work for Little Flower Catholic Grade School. She made a difference with her students. Many of her former students would tell Linda how much she influenced their lives. Linda also spent many years substituting for St. Johns High School and thoroughly enjoyed giving back to the kids and community.

Linda was involved in so many clubs and activities. She belonged to the Toledo Club, Inverness Club, Junior League and the Christ Child Society of Toledo. She was the Secretary of the Exmoor Homeowner Association, President of the Central Elementary Parents Club, and board member of Ohio Small Business Council, Christ the King School, West Toledo YMCA, and Timbers Edge Condo Association.

Linda impacted so many lives. Her smile, kindness, and caring made a difference. She loved a glass of Chardonnay, dancing, reading, entertaining, dinner out with friends, her time in Florida, and most importantly her time spent being an amazing cook. Family was the most important thing to Linda. She lived for Sunday dinners, family functions, and supporting her children. She will be dearly missed by all.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Connie Roemmele. She is survived by her husband, James Murphey; children, Jimmy (Tracy) McGurk, Kevin (Melissa) McGurk, James, Paul and Kathleen; sister, Paula (Dennis) Malone; brothers, Mike (Kathy) Roemmele and Tony Roemmele.

A time of visiting will be held at Walker Funeral Home (5155 W. Sylvania Ave.) on Thursday, May 16 from 4 pm to 8 pm. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (2955 Dorr St.). Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
