Lillie Mae (Scott) Pettaway, was born January 2, 1939, to John Henry Wesley Scott and Willie Mae (Truss) Scott in Kosciusko, MS. She peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Sylvania Ebeid Hospice Center, Sylvania, Ohio. She was affectionately known as “Lil” or “Aunt Lil”. In the early 70’s, she worked at St. Luke’s hospital in the dietary department. Then in May 1973, she began working for Toledo Stamping (currently known as GT Technologies), on Fearing Blvd. as a Press Operator and retired on July 1, 2002. One thing that Lil enjoyed the most was babysitting her grandkids. She loved cooking her favorite meal for them which was cabbage, sweet potatoes and corn bread. Another thing she enjoyed was the holidays. She was most famous for baking her homemade banana pudding. Everyone loved it. She was an excellent micro-manager of everybody’s life. Her thought was, “Her way is the best way.” When you walked through her front door, if there was even one hair out of place, she would let you know. Mom never had a loss of words. She said what she meant and she meant what she said. Lil was also a very generous, compassionate person. She would help out anyone who was in need. Growing up, we recall mom taking in her friends and their children when they had no place to live and she did this multiple times over the years. She was a strong advocate and protector of her sisters. Lil and her sisters were always very close. They called each other every single day. Her favorite tv show was ‘The Walking Dead.’ She would watch it every week. When she ran out of episodes, she would start seasons all over again. Mom was so funny, and her sense of humor came naturally. Her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids thought she was a ‘hoot.’ Lillie Mae Pettaway was the epitome of what a true matriarch should be.
Lillie confessed her belief in the gospel of Jesus Christ as an adult. And she reconfirmed her confession that Jesus Christ is her Lord and Savior in her senior adult years.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sonya; two of her siblings, Rosie D. Taylor and William “Uncle Bill” Scott; two grandsons James “Boopie” Pettaway III and Jeremy Scott. She leaves to treasure her memories her children, Darrell K. Scott, Jameel (Yolanda) Pettaway, Velvet (Victor) Ellis, and Lillie (Robert) Moore, all of Toledo; sisters, Johnie Mae Copeland and Rosa Harris, of Toledo; brothers, EL (Stormy) Scott of Fayetteville, NC, Edward Scott of Lynwood, CA, Ike (Wanda) Scott of Wichita, KS and Robert Fitch of Toledo; sister-in-law, Nancy Scott; grandkids Darrell Harvey, Tasha Scott, Quincy Harvey, Justin Gullatt, Brandon Scott, Wesley Ellis, Victoria Ellis, Wise Ellis, Brittany(Jarrod) Mosely, Jaimee Pettis, Mubaarak Pettaway, Jaleela Pettaway, Jala Pettaway, Louis Adisa and ViCean Sample; dear friend, Bea Gracie and a host of other great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
