After a courageous two-year battle with cancer, Lila Shousher-Elwardany passed surrounded by her children, loving husband, and family on February 1, 2021. Lila exemplified Khalil Gibran’s beautiful words, “Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.” She continued that spirit and energy that she was loved for up until the last moment of her life. The role in her life that she was most proud of was being a mother to her three children and being the “Fun Aunt” to all of her nieces and nephews. She was everyone’s favorite. Lila had an innate ability to live and love fiercely. She taught life lessons from how she lived her life, not by the words she spoke. She could deliver a sharp one-liner with impeccable timing. Lila was strong-willed and never wavered from her personal resolve. However, she would not be who she was without the absolute love that her and her husband, Ahmed, shared. They built a life together that valued faith, hard work, and family above all. They always put others before themselves, and together were anchors of unconditional love and support not just for each other, but for all their friends and family. As someone who loved her family, Lila still wanted to do everything her own way, traditions be damned. Growing up, she always wanted to do whatever her brothers or boy cousins were doing and she never shied away from mischief. She did shy away from the spotlight, never taking credit for her work even when it was award worthy. After working at Southland Corporation as an accountant for twenty years and most recently a Senior Budget Analyst for the Lucas County Commissioners, she also spent time volunteering with Lucas County Children Services. She was very proud of the work she did to help the children in the local community. She always made sure to help people who may not have had the ability to speak up for themselves. Lila is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Ahmed, her children Reema, Travis and Khaled (Lara), her siblings Mona, Hussien (Randa), Mariam, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Yehia and Emney, her sister Fatima and her brother Mohamed. In lieu of flowers, Lila requested donations be made to The Islamic Center of Greater Toledo or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
