Lewis H. Elwing

Lewis H. Elwing, 91, of Martin, Ohio, died Friday morning, April 19, 2013 in Mercy-St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio. Lewis was born in Elmore, Ohio on May 26, 1921 to Walter W. and Ruth F. Flickinger Elwing. Lewis served in the U.S. Army during WWII and upon returning he married Ruth L. Sutton in Toledo, Ohio on May 23, 1944. After 68 years of marriage she preceded him in death on April 25, 2012. Lewis worked for Chrysler Corp. in Perrysburg, Ohio for 10 years and was a lifetime farmer. In his early years he worked as a finish carpenter for the former Matthews Boat Co. in Port Clinton, Ohio. He enjoyed working on some very beautiful and ornate yachts produced by Matthews. Lewis was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Elliston, Ohio, and a member of the UAW #1435 in Perrysburg, Ohio. Lewis and his wife Ruth enjoyed camping and traveling. For many years he and Ruth loved spending the winter months in Florida. Survivors of Lewis include his children, Daryl L. Louise Elwing and Patricia A. Jerry Everhardt, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth, son, Roland R. Elwing, great-grandson, Bradley Steedman, brothers, Otto and Daniel Elwing, and sisters, Donna Hyde and Doris Keller. A funeral service for Lewis will be conducted at 11 AM, Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in the Trinity United Church of Christ, 17955 W. Third St., Elliston, OH. Visitation will be in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, OH 43430 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM, Monday, April 22, 2013. Interment will be in the Harris-Elmore-Union Cemetery, Elmore, OH.
