Lester Bernard Meier, a long-time resident of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025. He was born on January 7, 1931, in Curtice, Ohio to John and Almeta Meier. He was the youngest of 4 children including siblings, John Jr (deceased), Lucene (deceased), and Doris. Les is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart of nearly 75 years, MaryLou. Les and Mary have four daughters, Linda Simmons (Jack), Eileen Stamper (Bart), Cynthia Dingman, and Laurie Bauer (Doug).
Les and Mary have eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren who will all miss their Gramps dearly. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 29th @ 2 p.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg, Ohio.
Les grew up on the family farm with his brother and sisters near Toledo, where they grew sugar beets, soybeans, corn, tomatoes, grapes and raised chickens and dairy cows. Dad graduated from Clay High School with honors, where he was the president of the student council, the Senior and Junior class president and a member of the National Honor Society his Junior and Senior year. He was involved in many clubs and activities.
Not long after Les and Mary married, tragedy struck the young family when Les contracted Polio. After a 3-month hospitalization, he recovered and with renewed vigor built a house on Thompson Road in Perrysburg for his growing family. Les worked for Esmond Dairy in Perrysburg for many years as Branch Manager. In 1970, the family moved to Colorado, where Les was employed as a salesman, and later became owner of Trailerland, a recreational vehicle dealership.
Les and Mary were beloved members of Holy Shepard Lutheran Church in Lakewood, Colorado, where Les sang in the choir and Mary continued her Sunday School teaching.
Always full of adventure, Les and Mary travelled widely before and after retirement in their RV and visited almost every state in the nation, and later internationally, including Switzerland, the home of his grandfather. Les also traveled to Honduras to build homes for the poor and was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. They loved visiting family and would travel at the drop of a hat to babysit grandchildren.
Les and Mary eventually moved back to their hometown of Perrysburg and later took up residence at StoryPoint Assisted Living in Waterville, Ohio. Les’s final days were spent in the care of StoryPoint staff and Elara Caring Hospice. Just two days before he passed, Les sang Happy Birthday to the love of his life, Mary. Les leaves a legacy of faith, steadfast love, and tenacity; and his words to his daughters to “Always work hard and do the right thing.”
