On Wednesday morning November 2, 2022, LeRoy J. Widing, a loving husband and father of 10, passed away at the age of 92.
Roy was born on May 15, 1930, in Detroit, MI. He developed a hard work ethic with the best quality. Roy worked in construction as a carpenter. In later years, his interests expanded. Roy became an avid pilot, licensed to fly private. He had a commercial and instrument rating. Roy was also a professional canoe racer. He and his brother Al started the MCRA (Michigan Canoe Racing Association) in 1956. A gifted sportsman, Roy, and his partner Ed Adams in 1964, came in 2nd place in a 260-mile race called the TEXAS WATER SAFARI RACE the world’s toughest canoe race. Completed in 82 hours 8 minutes.
Roy is survived by his loving wife Kathleen Widing. He was a resident of Port Clinton and a member of Church of Truth Ministries. A gifted man that will be missed by many.
A memorial service for LeRoy will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Church of Truth Ministries, 745 S. Lake Street, P.O. Box 34, Gypsum, Ohio 43433, followed by a graveside service in Catawba Island Cemetery. LeRoy’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church. The Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, Ohio, is assisting with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
