Leroy Wellington Hunt III died peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday at his Toledo residence. Born Thanksgiving Day 1935 on Machen Street, Lee grew up in Toledo and on family farms in Wauseon, graduating from Wauseon High School. He went on to study at the United States Military Academy, Nyack College, and Toledo University. In addition to serving in the Army, he worked at various professions including aboard a lake freighter and as part of a travelling magic act. He also clocked in for nearly thirty years at the Chrysler plant in Perrysburg. He was known for his keen intelligence, astounding memory, and singular wit. He loved dogs and bluegrass, country, and dulcimer music. Leroy is survived by wife Bertha, son Nelson (Tina), daughter Becky (Jim), granddaughters Ann and Elizabeth, great-grandchildren Penelope, Caden, and Nicholas, brothers John (Shirley) and Thomas, and many dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister Randi. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-7 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.)., where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
