Leonard Waggoner

Leonard Waggoner passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on August 18, 2024, at Orchard Villa Nursing Home in Oregon, Ohio. Born on October 24, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio, Leonard was the son of Melvin Waggoner and Dorothy Wright.


A proud graduate of St. Mary's Central Catholic High School in Sandusky, Ohio, Leonard's journey took him from the classroom to the decks of the USS Intrepid, where he served with distinction in the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, Leonard pursued a career in Optometry, earning a certification and dedicating many years to serving the community through Coffman Optical and then Walmart Optical.


He enjoyed the simple pleasures of fishing, especially perch fishing with his children during their younger years. He liked to complete puzzles and play solitaire, and he was known for spending his free time watching the Hallmark Channel and NCIS. Leonard was also a devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians, finding joy in cheering on his teams.


Leonard is survived by his children Laura (Bruce) Taylor, Lisa (Ron) Echols, Lana (Steve) Woolley, Ted (Julie) Waggoner, Tim Waggoner, Nique Pittman, and Michael (Holly) Bezeau; 31 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Charlene Mantey, Sherron Davis, Jean, Geoffrey Waggoner, Melvin Waggoner Jr., Tim Waggoner, Brian Waggoner, John Davis, and Jesse Davis.


Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marsha Waggoner; his parents; siblings Ronald Waggoner, Donald Waggoner, Matthew Waggoner, David Wilch; and his daughter, Linda Larger.


Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in the care of the family.
