Leonard Ratz

Pap Leonard J. Ratz, age 87, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2009, at St. Lukes Hospital. He was born in Toledo, July 21, 1922, and was a graduate of the former Burnham High School. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. Leonard was a retired machine repairman from Champion Spark Plug, a volunteer fireman with Adams Twp. Fire Department for many years, and was a member of the American Legion Walter Weller Post 135. He enjoyed camping and watching his great-grandson race go-karts and sprint cars. Leonard had the biggest heart in the world and loved lending a hand to help people. Family was his life and nothing brought more joy to him than seeing his beautiful great-great granddaughters and referring to his great- grandsons as his bestest buddies. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his daughter, Darlene Clem Pinski; grandchildren, Carrie Alan Shank Pinski, Mark Carrie Pinski, Michael Pinski; great-grandchildren, Shawn Mandi White, Jennifer White, Sarah Pinski, JoLynn Pinski, Mark Pinski, Hannah Pinski; great-great- granddaughters, Brighten Bryant and Allison White; sisters, Josephine Reed, Agnes Grothhaus, Jeanette Hens; brother, Robert Ratz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha and 10 brothers and sisters. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave west of Corey Rd.. Funeral services will begin with family sharing and prayers at the funeral home on Thursday at 10 a.m. followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
