Leonard Joseph Gallagher, 93, passed away at his home on June 21, 2018. Leonard was born August 11, 1924 to the late Francis and Anna (Zerwas) Gallagher in Toledo and was a 1943 graduate of Burnham High School in Sylvania. Leonard joined the US Army in 1943 and fought in some of the fiercest battles of World War II including the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He had numerous decorations including the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. Leonard was honorably discharged in 1945 and began a career in construction. He most recently worked at Raceway Park, retiring in 1990. Leonard enjoyed antique autos and working on carpentry projects. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He also was an active member of AA, sponsoring many thru the years, and receiving his 62 years sobriety pin in April. Leonard will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. Leonard is survived by his son, Patrick (Debra); daughters, Kathryn (Robert) Aguston, and Christine (Gilbert) Davis; 8 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Ann; special friend, Beth; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his daughter, Colleen Tansel; and brothers, David, Harold, Clarence and Ted. Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2018 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue where services will begin at 7 p.m. with Chaplain Karen Brown officiating. Entombment of Leonards ashes will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park with full Military Honors provided by VFW Post 606.
