Leonard E. Dino Brownson, Iii

February 11, 1933 — October 12, 2016

Leonard E. “Dino” Brownson, III, of Perrysburg, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Parkcliffe Community in Northwood after a six year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in New York, NY on February 11, 1933 to Leonard E., Jr. and Alby E. (Cobb) Brownson. Dino Married Jane de Baun in Havana, Cuba on July 3, 1954. Dino was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps from 1953 – 1956, including serving as a Drill Instructor at Parris Island, SC. He worked for many years at Owens Illinois, as an executive and retired in 1987. He loved training service dogs for the disabled and enjoyed spending time fishing. Dino is survived by his loving wife, Jane; children, Leonard E. “Lee” (Siobhan) Brownson, Michael A. (Rose) Brownson, Stephen C. (Lore) Brownson, A. Elena (Alastair) Brownson-McAlees; and grandchildren, Laura (Eric) Hogensen, Patrick (Katie) Brownson, Sarah Brownson, Elizabeth Brownson, Nicholas Brownson, Alex Brownson, Amanda Brownson, Margaux Keating, and Mara Keating. Dino was preceded in death by his son, John P. Brownson, and his parents, Leonard and Alby. Dino enjoyed travelling, and took several international assignments with O-I, including marketing, plant management, and eventual General Manager of Operations in Europe. In the late 1970s and early 1980s he moved to Brazil as President of Cisper, O-I’s Brazilian glass operation. After retiring from OI, Dino used his lifetime love of dogs to become involved with Assistance Dogs of America, which trains and places assistance dogs with disabled people. He also served on the Advisory Board of the American Red Cross of Wood county, and volunteered with several food banks in Northwest Ohio. Dino was a longtime member of St. Timothy’s church in Perrysburg. After moving to the Jupiter, Florida area in the mid- 1990s, Dino and his wife Jane stayed busy helping protect sea turtles and their nests. The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their outstanding help and support. Parkcliffe Community in Northwood took excellent care of Dino during the year he spent there, and we are especially grateful to Tena, Shawna, Amanda and Wendy, whose compassion is without limits. Joyce Oravecz at Elderly Odds N’ Ends was very helpful to the family as we helped Dino navigate this difficult disease. Friends will be received on Saturday, October 15, 2016 beginning at 1:30 P.M. at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 871 E. Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-5704) where a Memorial Service will begin at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations in Dino’s name be made to St. Timothy’s Church, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Parkcliffe Communities, 4226 Parkcliffe Lane, Toledo. Arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133).
