Leona L. Elser, 93, of Woodville, Ohio, died early Friday morning, March 20, 2009, in St. Charles-Mercy Hospital, Oregon. Leona was born April 5, 1915, in Luckey, Ohio, to William H. and Pearl A. Miller Aspacher. On June 12, 1937, in Stony Ridge, Ohio, she married Paul F. Elser, who preceded her in death in 1980. She worked as a nurse at St. Charles Hospital from 1953-58 and then for Dr. Frederick Price in Millbury retiring in 1986 after 28 years. Again in 1988 she returned to work full time at Otterbein-Portage Valley in Pemberville retiring in 1998. Leona was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Stony Ridge, where she belonged to the LCW and quilted many items for the church. She volunteered for many different organizations in the area. Leona enjoyed playing her Baldwin organ in her home and also enjoyed line dancing at Navarre Park. Her survivors include daughter, Patricia A. Richard Thornton of Genoa, sisters, Jean Follman of Gibsonburg, Beatrice Mohrman of Woodville, and Gloria Aspacher of Phoenix, AZ, brothers, Donald Barbara Aspacher of Adrian, MI, Kenneth Linda Aspacher of Toledo, and sister-in-law, Donnabelle Aspacher of Genoa. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl Aspacher, husband, Paul Elser, sister, Shirley DeRammelaere, and brothers, Harold and Dale Aspacher. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2009, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday March 23, 2009, in St. John Lutheran Church, Stony Ridge, followed by interment in Westwood Cemetery, Woodville. Memorial contributions for Leona may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Stony Ridge.
