Leona B. Distel

March 15, 1926 — February 27, 2014

Leona B. Distel, 87, died Thursday morning, February 27, 2014, and entered into her Heavenly home greeted by her soul mate and husband of 43 years, Andrew. She was born March 15, 1926, in Clay Center, Ohio, to Frank and Ada Steedman Shaneck. Leona worked at Erie Army Depot, where she met Andrew Distel and later married on July 28, 1946. He preceded her in death March 17, 1989. Leona will always be remembered for loving her family-she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed canning, cooking, gardening and working with her flowers. She also enjoyed making crafts. Christmas and holidays were always special for her. Although the last five years dementia had changed her, it hasnt changed our love for her. The family would like to thank Tracey and Sharon, Otterbein-Portage Valley, Amanda and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their wonderful care and love. Leona is survived by her daughter, Dianna Jerry Kettinger of Oregon, sons, Andy Patricia Distel of Northwood and Thomas Joan Distel of Elmore; grandchildren, Jayme Shana Klavinger, Amy Jourdan Klavinger, Hollie David Parsons, Nicholas Donna Distel and April Preston Linley; great grandchildren, David and Lauren Parsons, Rylan Klavinger and Parker and Layla Linley. She is also survived by sisters, Faye Oleszczuk of Clay Center and Betty Mickits of Waco, TX and sister-in-law, Aline Shaneck of Curtice. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Pamela Ann, sister, Irene Swedren and brothers, Floyd, Glenn, Don, Maynard and Leslie Shaneck. To honor Leonas wishes, visitation and services will be private. Interment will take place in Elliston Cemetery, Graytown. The family has suggested memorials for Leona to Pets Without Parents, 629 Oakland Park Ave., Columbus, OH 43214. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory of Genoa has assisted the family with arrangements.
