Layton Emil Yock Yockey, Sr

March 2, 1932 — November 3, 2019

Layton “Yock” Emil Yockey Sr. was born on March 2, 1932 in Findlay, Ohio. He was one of two children born from the union of the late Emil and Ruth (Cole) Yockey. Layton attended Fostoria high school, graduating with the class of 1950. Shortly after high school, Layton proudly enlisted into the United States Navy, where he honorably served his country as a Boatswains mate on the Battleship Wisconsin and the Newport News Cruiser from 1951 till honorable discharge in 1955. Layton married the love of his life, the former Carol Sue (Beckman) on March 7. 1958 in Fostoria, Ohio and from this union came the birth of six wonderful children. He supported his family through employment with Toledo Mold as a Journeyman glass mold maker, finally taking retirement in 1985. For almost ten years, Layton was an avid volunteer fireman for Springfield Township Fire Department. He was a hardworking family man, always doing whatever it took to care for his family and community. As a proud veteran, he was an active member of the Holland American Legion Post 646 and the Fostoria VFW Post 421. In his free time Layton enjoyed nothing more than being a grandpa, he loved his grandchildren. He was a proud fan of the Cleveland Browns, and enjoyed watching wrestling on TV and old Westerns Movies. Layton “Yock” Emil Yockey Sr. age 87 of Toledo passed away at 10:30pm on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at home with his loving family at his side. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by his loving wife of nearly thirty-eight years: Carol, and a brother: James Yockey. To cherish his memory, Layton leaves his children Anthony (Penny) Yockey of Florida, Layton “Jay” (Audrey) Yockey Jr. of Toledo, Tammy (James) Vidrine of Virginia, Randy (Jennifer) Yockey of Maumee, Douglas (Stephanie) Yockey of Sylvania and Kellie (John) Childers of Toledo; twenty-four grandchildren; and thirty-eight great grandchildren. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Neville-Shank Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland (419) 865-8879. A celebration of life will follow at 7:00pm also at Neville-Shank with his grandson, Pastor Jay Michael of I Am Church in South Rockwood officiating.
