Lawrence Charles Mike Shiple

Lawrence “Mike” Charles Shiple, 90, passed away at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on August 13, 2016. Mike was born March 22, 1926 in Perrysburg, OH to Magdalene W. Hertzfeld and John S. Shiple. Mike attended Perrysburg High School. His beloved wife, Rita Elizabeth Keckstein, passed away before him in 2002. Mike was a veteran, having served in the Navy. He worked at various jobs throughout the years, the most notable at The Andersons for 35 years as a maintenance man. Mike was an active member of St. Rose Catholic Church. His family was the most important thing to him. He loved to play Santa, not just for his own family, but for local restaurants as well. He took great pleasure in square dancing, gardening, and trains. He was a very proud donor for the American Red Cross Blood Drive. Mike is survived by his children Lawrence P. (Sue) Shiple, Kate (Rick) Donnelly, Jeffrey G. (Jamie) Shiple, Georgann Hade, Mary E. (Bruce) Krall, Theresa R. Richter, Phyllis J. Wilkewitz; sister Marcella Haas; 21 granchildren; 30 great grandchildren. Mike is predeceased by his parents; wife Rita; daughter Patricia Shiple; and son John Shiple. Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from 2-8 P.M. in Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. S. Boundary, Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133) where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Prayers will begin in the funeral home on Thursday, August, 18, 2016 at 9:45 A.M. and proceed to St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front Street, Perrysburg, OH for a Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Sight Center of Northwest Ohio. The family wishes to express their greatest thanks to the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio especially Nurse Nicole and all the aides that attended to Dad’s care.
