Lawrence W. Lohr

Lawrence William Lohr, age 88, passed away on October 25, 2018 at his home in Toledo. Lawrence was born September 16, 1930 to Lawrence J. and Kathryn Lohr in Dayton, OH. After high school, Lawrence joined the U.S.M.C. where he was a drill sergeant, a rifle drill instructor and part of the skeet team. He owned and operated Haupert Appliance for 30 years and later retired from Clapp and Haney Tool as a diamond tool sales consultant. Lawrence had many diverse hobbies and interests. He was a true outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, hiking, golfing, traveling, and skeet shooting with his friends Chuck and Ron. He had a 27 foot Hunter sailboat and spent many weekends sailing the Great Lakes. He also liked soft jazz and classical music and enjoyed writing, reading, and reciting poetry. Lawrence was a man of faith. He and his wife attended services at Epworth United Methodist Church for many years. He was a stern disciplinarian with a kind heart and was well respected. Lawrence will be remembered as fair, righteous, honest and trustworthy. His family was his greatest joy. Lawrence is survived by his brother Jim (Jayne Lohr) son, Matt Lohr; daughter, Susan Shuman; grandchildren, Jessie Shuman, Meghan Lohr, Jordan Shuman, Tara Juozitis, Jacob Lohr, five great grandchildren, and many wonderful friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Lohr and brother Bobby Lohr. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4855 W. Central Ave. Toledo, OH 43615. A luncheon will be held at the church in the Family Life Center immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Goerlich Center, 5320 Harroun Rd.
