Laura Shutters-Jokenin

Laura Shutters-Jokinen, age 58, of Maumee, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 13, 2017. She was born January 8, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois to Dave and Connie Shutters. She graduated from Maumee High School in 1977, and worked in the shipping industry. She will be remembered most for her zest for life, devotion to family, contagious smile, and sense of humor. She loved her son, Nathan, her pride and joy, and was happiest when she was with him. Laura battled illness bravely, and drew strength through her faith in Christ and from her family. Laura is survived by her son, Nathan Jokinen, parents, Dave and Connie Shutters, siblings Dorothy (Matt) Stohl, Dave (LuAnn) Shutters, Mike Shutters, Jim (Terri) Shutters, and Tony Shutters. Her large and extended family includes many loving aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins. Family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate her life this Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home at 501 Conant Street in Maumee, Ohio, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, her son, Nathan, wishes to apply any donations to purchase a memorial bench to be placed at Side Cut Park in Maumee. The Maumee River at Sidecut was a special place for Laura and her son. Donations may also be made to Calvary Church, Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio.
