Larry D. Reetz, 62, of Genoa, Ohio, died Saturday, November 5, 2011 in the Edward Marion Knight Hospice Center, Perrysburg, Ohio. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 26, 1948 to Donald C. and Margie J. Grosjean and married Mary E. Fletcher on September 17, 1977 in Genoa. Larry and his Mother Margie owned and operated the former Star Lils restaurant in Genoa for 15 years retiring in 1991. He had also worked for Epco Machinery Co. of Fremont, Ohio for 9 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Genoa, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #4237 of Genoa and the 4th Degree DeSoto Assembly, along with the Sons of the American Revolution. Larry was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1969-1973 and a very active member of the Genoa American Legion Post #324 serving as Commander of the post for several terms along with many other offices and duties. He was one of the small group of Veterans that was the driving force in designing and constructing the current Veterans Memorial at Clay Township Cemetery. Larry also belonged to the Ottawa County American Legion Council along with the Historical Society. Collecting artifacts and learning of the areas historical figures and events were one of Larrys favorite pastimes, along with researching genealogy and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife Mary, daughter, Angela Josh Baltzell, son, Joseph Reetz, all of Genoa, grandchildren, Jackson and Grayson, brother, William Carol Reetz of Largo, FL, and sister, Debra Donald Beaudry of Perrysburg. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, November 9, 2011 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 204 S. Main St. Genoa, OH. Visitation will be in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 501 West St. Genoa, from 2-4 6-8 PM on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. A scripture service will be conducted at 3:30 PM Tuesday afternoon in the funeral home. Interment, with full military honors, will be in the Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. Larrys family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in his name be directed to the Genoa American Legion Post #324, Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto Committee, or the Allen-Clay Joint Fire District, Station #3, Genoa.
