Larry Miller (aka Lar-Dawg; aka Laughin’ Larry) caused one last emergency flight from Los Angeles for his daughter when he passed away peacefully at his home on September 14, 2021. Those emergencies had become just a normal part of life for our family over the last few years, with his many health issues, but he always took them like a loud champ and made sure to nicely harass as many hospital employees as possible while on his frequent and extended stays there. To know Larry was to know his absolutely kind soul. He had a large love for people and he especially had a love for all animals. However, possibly the biggest thing to know about him was his hilarious sense of humor. He loved a good inappropriate joke and would tell them to anyone who would listen, while beaming with laughter, even when he forgot the punchline. We always knew that when he went to Hank to get a hair cut to be prepared for jokes and tears of laughter when he got back. You could catch him more than half of the day out baking in the sun, kicked back in his zero gravity lounger and enjoying the outdoors. He was an incredibly hard worker, who was generous to his employees, maybe sometimes to a fault. And let’s not forget his love of cooking, mostly with butter and sugar, even though they are things that his body was probably screaming “no” to! The man adored bloody marys and food and especially things that he shouldn’t have been eating. He had a huge affinity for pipes, which his body was probably also screaming “no” at, but he really just wanted to live and enjoy his life…and he seemed very cat-like in having 9 lives. The other thing about him was those way too hard back pats, that meant nothing but love, but sometimes made us cringe and have to let people know “he does that to everyone”. If you got one of those & almost got the wind knocked out of you, that was a good thing! Above all else though, he absolutely loved nothing more than spending time with his wacky, loud family. He was born in Zanesville, Ohio January 4, 1943 to Harold and Clara Miller and continued to run and grow the family business with his brother Harold, Reliance Bottle Gas and Fuel Oil, after a fun summer working at Cedar Point when he was 21. He also did his Patriotic duty and served 6 years with the National Guard. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Michele, daughters Dawn (Evan), Nicole (Mike) and Jami; grandkids Gavin, Emery, Harrison, Talia and Leidy, many other extended family members and his furry friend Olive. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Frieda and Harold, and Granddaughter Skylar. There will be a public showing at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 4-8:00 pm. In true Lar-Dawg fashion, please enjoy this joke, although you’ll be missing out on the part where he would be cry laughing and barely able to deliver the punchline: What did the elephant say to the naked man? “How do you breathe through that thing?” In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Lucas County Pit Crew, or Make A Wish of Northwest Ohio.
