Larry Robert Lindner

May 15, 1944 — August 4, 2023

Larry Robert Lindner, 79, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born in Toledo, Ohio, on May 15, 1944, to his late parents, Robert and Betty (Doerr) Lindner, where he was the eldest alongside his six siblings. Later he attended Sylvania High School and upon graduating, he entered the United States Air Force where he began what would amount to an incredible 22-year long career as a special agent for the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigation. During his tenure, the job took him all around the world, but his two favorite places were Minot, North Dakota, and the Upper Peninsula in Michigan, where he was first stationed. After retirement, Larry enjoyed spending time in his hometown with his family. In 1967, Larry met the woman who would later become his wife of 40 years, Darlene (Houser) Lindner, and married her in 1983. Together they raised three daughters. Larry’s daughters were the pride and joy of his life to which he centered everything around. He would reliably make the effort, in all things, to make sure that they were prioritized and supported.

As a young boy, Larry was very active in the Eagle Scouts in Toledo. In his leisure time, he was a lifetime member of Star in the West Lodge #33 in Minot, ND, and was also involved with the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio. He was a model train enthusiast and also a licensed gunsmith who excelled at calligraphy, occasionally combining the two skills to create true works of art. With his Air Force background, he always took a special liking for planes and loved using flight simulators and even going for occasional rides when opportunities arose.

He fought many health battles over the years as he was continuously loved and cared for by his loving wife and daughters. His family will forever remember him as a people’s person, strong, very generous, and affectionately obstinate. He was very sociable and quite the storyteller, who would talk anybody’s ear off. He will be incredibly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Darlene Lindner; daughters, Dawn Walton, Misty Shock, Kristie Dixon; grandchildren, Kevin Walton, Ashley Dixon-Blair, Austin Dixon, Kai Shock, Summer Shock; great grandchildren, Noah Dixon, Liam Walton, and Ella Blair; siblings, Dusty Lindner, Mark Lindner, Robin Barber, and Craig Lindner. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Randy Lindner.
