Larry Raymond Holston

Feb 25, 1977 — Jul 9, 2026

Larry Raymond Holston, known simply as Ray to family and friends, passed away July 9, 2026, at the age of 49. He was born February 25, 1977, in the small town of Ironton, Ohio to Larry and Johnda Holston.

Ray was a graduate of the University of Toledo, where he earned his bachelor's degree in business. His career began at The Pinnacle, where he was mentored by the late Mark Thees, whose guidance helped shape his passion for hospitality and leadership. He later became a part-owner of City Barbeque, went on to work for AVI Foodsystems, and most recently served as the Director of Business Operations for Sylvania Schools.

On July 9, 2010, Ray married the love of his life, Katie Holston. Together they built a beautiful life centered on family, laughter, and supporting their daughters in everything they did.

Ray had a passion for cooking, Friday movie nights which in years past included the weekly trip to Family Video, and hour-long relaxing baths. Earlier in life, he enjoyed stunt riding motorcycles, boxing, and playing baseball during his college years.

Above all, softball became his life's passion. He dedicated much of his adult life to coaching with Fusion and Ohio Fury, becoming a respected and beloved figure in the Sylvania softball community. He became the go to coach for girls struggling with their swing providing them with guidance and encouragement. His patience, generosity, and belief in young athletes helped shape the confidence and success of countless girls, many of whom continued to seek his advice long after they left his team.

Those who knew Ray will remember his infectious sense of humor, especially his unforgettable "Dad jokes," his incredible cooking, his thoughtful parenting advice, and the countless hours he devoted to coaching and mentoring young athletes.

Ray also had a few favorite indulgences that brought a smile to his face-hot dogs and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups were among his favorites. If you couldn't find Ray, just check the local Sheetz, you will find him at the counter ordering a chili dog.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Katie Holston; daughters, Hayley Haupricht, Hannah Haupricht, and Isabella Holston; brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Brandy Holston; along with many extended family members, dear friends, former players, and members of the softball community who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Holston and Johnda Holston.
