Larry D. Red Gordon, age 76, of Maumee and formerly of West Toledo, died Friday morning, April 18, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Larry was born March 3, 1938 in Toledo to the late Lester and Harriett Crabb Gordon. He graduated from Macomber High School and worked as a truck driver for more than 30 years with both the Ohio/Michigan Paper Company and Mellocraft, retiring in 1987. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Larry was a member and two-time Past Master of Robinson Locke Lodge #659 F&AM. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Zenobia Shrine and Blessed John XXIII Catholic Community in Perrysburg. He formerly served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, was an avid bowler and baseball fan, especially of the Detroit Tigers and Toledo Mud Hens. In his younger years he worked on race cars, both stock and sprint, and Larrys favorite pastime was fishing for yellow perch and walleye on Lake Erie. He will be lovingly remembered as a patriotic and devoted family man. Surviving are his loving wife, Cathy Schaetzke Gordon, who he married in 1999; children, Duane Mary and Denny Amy Gordon; step daughter, Kelly Brad Rynearson; grandchildren, Ariel, Amber, Seth and Case; mother-in-law, Betty Schaetzke; many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Larry was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannine Hammer Gordon in 1995; sons, Larry E. and Joseph M. Gordon; sister, Margie Milios; and father-in-law, Frank R. Schaetzke. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where a vigil service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Blessed John XXIII Catholic Church, 24250 Dixie Highway, Perrysburg, OH 43551 where additional visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. A luncheon will immediately follow Mass at the church. Graveside committal rites and military honors conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to Threshold to Tomorrow in care of the church or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Larrys family would like to thank all the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, for the care and concern extended to Larry and his family. Special thanks to Fr. Herb Weber with whom Larry shared a special bond.
