Larry August Fizer, Sr. of Oak Harabor, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at Cottage Cove of Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. He was born July 6, 1931, in Carroll Twp. to August and Leona Kardotzka Fizer. He graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1949 and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954. Larry married Donna Lou Thorbahn on February 20, 1954, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor. He worked at US Gypsum for 40 years in the Board Plant as a foreman retiring in 1990. Larry was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor, the VFW Post #8732, and the Moose Club Lodge #1610. He enjoyed gardening, traveling by train, and spending time with his family. More recently he loved watching the squirrels and birds that visited his backyard.Larry is survived by his loving wife, Donna, and children, Patricia Robert Fizer-Vogel of Oak Harbor, Kay Glen Craft of Kelso, WA, Susan Fizer of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and Larry, Jr. Kimberly Fizer of Lagos, Nigeria. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brianna and Chanteal Craft, Michael and Katie Fizer, Doreann and Elizabeth Vogel, Alison Greg Frye, and great grandchild, Abigail Frye. His parents preceded him in death.Visitation will be at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, on Monday, September 17, 2007, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, on Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at 11:00 a.m.; Pastor D. Tinker officiating. Interment will take place in Rusha Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mid-County EMT Association, St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, or the March of Dimes Foundation. The family is very grateful to Chad Blunt, MD and the staff ncluding Angel of Cottage Cove for all the care and compassion shown to Larry and his family during the past two months.
