Larry Lee Covert, 76, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away on July 16, 2021. He was born on October 29, 1944, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Clarence and Modest (Cochenour) Covert. Larry graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1962. He obtained a B.S. in Education from Bowling Green State University in 1967 and M.S. in Management and Rehabilitation from DePaul University in 1979. Larry married Faye (Greunke) Covert on August 20, 1966, in Elmore, Ohio. They built a life together and raised their daughter, Jana, in Perrysburg, Ohio. Larry devoted his 40-year professional career to serving individuals with developmental disabilities and advocating for them. He was a Speech and Hearing Therapist for Miami County Schools, Superintendent of Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Superintendent of Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and Director of Special Services for the Northwest Ohio Developmental Center. In 1977, Larry organized Community Residential Services, Inc. (CRS) as a nonprofit organization to provide community living opportunities and support services for persons in Northwest Ohio with developmental disabilities. He served as the Executive Director of CRS for 33 years until his retirement in 2010. Larry and Faye both enjoyed traveling with family and friends to worldwide places including Africa, England, Hawaii, Jamaica, Italy, Spain, and the former Yugoslavia. Golfing with friends was Larry’s favorite hobby and golfing destinations were his most anticipated trips in his later years. Larry will be remembered for his warm smile and kind, compassionate spirit. Larry is survived by Faye, his loving wife of almost 55 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Jana (Kyle) Kleman; granddaughters Eva and Cora Kleman; brothers Dean Covert and James (Linda) Covert; brothers-in-law Meryl Greunke and Bart Hanus and sister-in-law Ara Lou (John) Panutsos; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Sandra Elwing and Judith Hanus. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Kingston Residence of Perrysburg and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their continuous care and support.
