Kurt Ehrhardt, 74, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 19, 2025. Kurt was born in Toledo, Ohio, on October 3, 1950, to his late parents, Richard and Sheila (Smith) Ehrhardt. He attended Start High School where he played shortstop for the varsity team, making it to the city finals in 1968. He briefly attended University of Toledo, where he spent the majority of his time socializing in the student union. While a student he did get to see Jimi Hendrix for $7.50, which in Kurt’s opinion made it all worth it. He met his future wife, Nancy Diefenthaler, at a jukebox where he got her attention by saying “My god are you beautiful; what are you doing for the rest of your life”? The two married in 1982 and the rest was history.
Kurt was a journeyman finish carpenter for 50+ years and enjoyed landscaping his yard and remodeling around the house. His yard was his domain, despite the efforts of the squirrels who he had to chase away from his pumpkins and vegetable garden. He had a keen attention to detail and was more than happy to share his opinion with you.
His attention to detail extended to his fandom. He loved watching Michigan sports, especially the Detroit Lions. He could talk to you for hours about what he would do if he were the coach, and could predict plays before the commentators did. As a life-long music fan, he loved learning about how his favorite songs were made and having Nancy look up videos for him to watch. In his younger years he greatly enjoyed spending his free time outdoors hunting and fishing. He loved playing softball. Despite hating practice he was still the best one on the team.
Kurt loved his wife’s cooking, even though he was the better cook. He was a natural born salesman, and knew everyone in the neighborhood. One of his greatest joys in life was being a grandfather and attentively following the creativity and artistic expressions of his granddaughter. Her artwork was proudly displayed all around his home. He will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Nancy; son, James (Amanda); granddaughter, Eris; siblings, Karen (Mike); Karl (Terri); and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved Grandma Smith, who he had so many cherished memories with.
All are welcome to his visitation on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 12:00-3:00 p.m. at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, OH, 43537.
In honor of Kurt, memorial contributions may be made out to the Toledo Area Humane Society.
