Kirk Elevich

October 28, 1958 — August 7, 2025

Kirk Michael Elevich (Kirkie), age 66, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Sunshine Communities Family Care Home in Toledo, Ohio, where he had lived since 2012.

He was born on October 28, 1958, in Toledo, the beloved son of Henry and Marie (Francis) Elevich.

Kirkie worked for over 40 years at Lott Industries in Toledo and Holland, Ohio, before continuing on with YouFirst by Grant Services and the Sunshine Communities Vocational Program. He made many friends along the way and was known for his kind heart, joyful spirit, and unwavering love for those around him.

A longtime participant in Special Olympics basketball and bowling, Kirk also loved to swim and spent over 50 summers at Camp Courageous—his happy place. His passions included music (especially Michael Jackson and The Monkees), sports (WWE, football, and basketball), and socializing with family and friends. He had a special fondness for good meals—particularly cheeseburgers and fries, pasta, and ice cream!

Kirkie’s love and warmth touched everyone who knew him. He had a deep love for the staff at Sunshine and YouFirst, and they in turn became like family to him. Heartfelt appreciation is extended to all support and nursing staff at Sunshine and Jana, his Hospice Nurse, for their dedicated care. Their compassion and commitment provided invaluable comfort and support during a challenging time.

His mother often told his siblings that Kirkie was a blessing from God who had entrusted them with his care—but they all agreed that it was Kirk who made their family truly complete.

Kirk is survived by his devoted siblings: sister Chris (Bryan) Ohm, sister Nadine Caputo, brothers Craig (Marsha) Elevich and Mark (Joan) Elevich; his cherished Aunt Patti Francis; seven nieces and nephews; and a great-niece and great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marie Elevich, his brother-in-law, Randy Caputo, and his hero, Hulk Hogan.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, August 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee, OH 43537. A burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A celebration of Kirkie’s life will take place on Friday August 15 at 10:30 AM at Sunshine Communities, 7223 Maumee Western Rd, Maumee, OH 43537.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kirkie’s name to Sunshine Communities Pool restoration fund.
