Kevin R. Purney, 55, of Hilliard, Ohio and formerly of Clay Center, Ohio, died Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Doctor’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio after a lingering illness. He was born on January 26, 1966, the son of Gerald E. and Carol A. (Benadum) Purney. He was a 1984 graduate of Genoa High School. He continued on to Owens Community College and graduated in 1986. Kevin was known for his natural ability to work with computers. In 1992 he became a computer programmer, which lead to his current position as lead software engineer for Lumen, an internet company in Columbus, Ohio. His interest in computers and technology started when he was very young, inspired by the TV series, “Lost in Space”. He lived for the challenge of developing new ways to integrate computers into everyday life. Kevin was an avid fan of Ohio State Football, movies and especially the TV series “The Simpsons” Kevin is survived by his mother, Carol Purney, sister, Lori Purney, nephew, Zachary Purney, his furry feline companion “River” and best friends, Kurt, Brett, Kara, Doug and Dennis. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald, grandparents, Ted & Freda Benadum, Vincent & Eleanor Purney, uncle, Art Benadum, cousin, Michelle Benadum and his feline companion “Smokey”. Visitation for Kevin will take place on Sunday, May 23, 2021 from 4-8 PM at the Walker Funeral Home – Oregon Chapel, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, Ohio 43616. A service will be conducted at 11 AM, Monday, May 24, 2021 in the funeral home, with burial to follow in Allen Township Cemetery, Williston, Ohio.
