Kent Richard Seagert, age 75, of Waterville, Ohio, peacefully entered Heaven on October 1, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family after battling cancer with courage, faith, and so much grace. In the end, he was very much looking forward to “seeing his Papa” (our Heavenly Father) and being restored to glory.
He was born July 11, 1948, in Toledo and graduated from Whitmer High School in 1966. He went on to serve in the United States Navy. He attended Ohio University and the University of Toledo as a student-athlete and had considered pursuing a career in teaching English.
Kent was skilled with his hands and loved working with wood. His talent matched with his bend towards perfectionism led him to become a brilliant finish carpenter who has left a legacy of beautiful work.
He worked with his dad’s business, Seagert & Sons, for several years where he learned the excellent work ethic that he passed along to his children. He then went to work as a carpenter at The Toledo Zoo for over 30 years until his retirement in 2016. He also proudly helped with the construction of the Toledo Covenant Church.
An athlete and avid sports fan, Kent especially enjoyed supporting the Detroit Lions and Tigers. He was a scratch golfer and could often be found at Riverby Hills Golf Course where he was the club champion on several occasions. He probably wouldn’t have told you, but his family and friends loved to brag about the several hole-in-ones he’d gotten over the years. Kent was a faithful member of Redemption Church in Monclova Township. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his beloved family, particularly on camping trips and visiting their favorite vacation destination, Pawley’s Island, South Carolina. Kent will also be remembered for his love of all things chocolate –especially Peanut M&M’s.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 40 years, Terri (nee Pollock) Seagert; mother, Betty Seagert; children, Jamey Koralewski (Steve), Brandon Seagert, and Jennifer Seagert; grandchildren, Hannah (Kristen), Emma, Griselda, Grace, and Milo; sister, Diane Calcamuggio (Larry). He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Seagert, on December 29, 2013.
The family will receive guests for visitation from 2 -4 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Redemption Church, 8605 Salisbury Road, Monclova, OH 43542.
A Celebration of Life memorial service to honor Kent will be held immediately following at 4 p.m.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations in Kent’s name be made to the “Because of Logan” fund ( becauseoflogan.com ) to assist with swim safety awareness, education, training, and support of families who have endured a loss through childhood drowning.
