Kenneth L. Padgett, 90, of Genoa, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, in Partners of Marion, Marion, Ohio. Kenneth was born April 12, 1921, in Genoa, Ohio, to William W. and Mary A. Rice Padgett. On February 28, 1948, in Genoa he married Arlene E. Depner, who preceded him in death June 9, 2007. Ken retired as a supervisor in 1982 after 36 years from GTE, formerly, Northern Ohio Telephone Company, what is now known as Frontier. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Genoa. Ken served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received a Purple Heart when wounded in Germany. In his earlier years, Ken enjoyed woodworking in his woodshop, playing golf, and playing cards. Ken was known for his sense of humor and a kind heart. Ken is survived by his son, Kenneth L. Padgett, Jr. of Marion, grandchildren, Lindsay Todd Duwe, Jillian Joe Oelke, and Whitney and Nicholas Padgett, great grandchildren, Maycie, Max and Gwendolyn, and his brother, Charles Abe W. Helen Padgett of Genoa. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Arlene, sisters, Bernadine Thompson, Christine Nissen and Elizabeth Kruse, and brothers, Claude, Bernard and Chester Padgett. A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011, in St. Johns United Church of Christ Chapel, 1213 Washington St., Genoa, with interment to follow in Clay Township Cemetery. Memorials for Kenneth may be given to St. Johns United Church of Christ.
