Kenneth R. Kruse age 85 of Toledo passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012 in Aspen Grove Assisted Living, Lambertville, Michigan. He was born February 5, 1927 in Toledo to Amelia and Otto Kruse and spent his boyhood in Keene California where he attended a one room schoolhouse and roamed his beloved California mountains. After moving back to Toledo he graduated from Whitmer High School, joined the Navy and married his high school sweetheart Marcella Miller. Kenneth served as a ships radar man during World War II aboard the LCI 725. After being honorably discharged he was employed at City Auto Stamping where he was a metal finisher for 43 years. He built his present home where he and Marcella still live after 57 years. He loved America and travelled to just about every state , National Park, and important point of interest in the country except Alaska, and then went international..Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica and Israel. He raised his family in the Trilby Methodist Church where he has been a member for over 60 years. He approached just about all of his hobbies and interests always striving for perfection in everythingguitar, photography, hunting, fishing and western square dance; but his greatest talent lay in his creative carpentry and beautiful furniture making. He was a passionate person and giver of his many gifts and talents to his family. Kenneth was preceded in death by sisters Phyllis Hodge and Ruth Amstutz; and son-in-law Patrick OPhelan. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Marcella; daughter Sandra OPhelan; son Roger Chris Kruse; grandchildren Heather Kruse, Alyssa Kruse Michael Gee, Ethan Krissy Kruse and Ian OPhelan; and 7 great-grandchildren. Friends may visit the family at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Visitation will continue in the funeral home on Saturday after 10 AM where funeral services will follow at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
