Kenneth A. Kettinger

Kenneth A.Ken Kettinger, 91, of Millbury, Ohio, died Sunday, December 8, 2013, in the Genoa Retirement Village, Genoa, Ohio. Ken was born in Toledo, Ohio, on December 14, 1921, to Tracy B. and Iona U. Goulet Kettinger. On October 25, 1947, he married Margaret M. Bertok; she preceded him in death on May 15, 1990. On August 6, 1993, Ken married Rose A. Teplik-Slovak and she also preceded him in death on August 26, 2007. Ken served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and had been active all his life promoting and assisting in veteran causes. He had worked his whole life on the railroad starting with the Pennsylvania Railroad, the Penn Central Railroad, and retired in December 1981 from the Con Rail System after more than 40 years of service. Ken was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Genoa, the Knights of Columbus Council #4237 also in Genoa, and the R.C. Recker Flying Club of Perrysburg, Ohio. In his spare time Ken liked to fish, garden and work in his yard. He had a love for animals, especially all of his canine companions he had over the years. Ken was a strong man with a tremendous sense of duty to help and care for his family. Survivors include his children, Theresa Tim Mizer, Mary Beth Danny Thomas, Edward J. Kettinger, grandchildren, Julie Ryan, Katie Mike, Andrew and Matthew, great-grandchildren, Margaret, Jack, Garrett, and Sean; step children, Elaine Larry Hermes, Joseph Irene Slovak, James Kathy Slovak, four step grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren, and brothers, Merle and Tom Kettinger. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Margaret and Rose, brother, Donald Kettinger, and sister, Dorothy Mominee. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2013, in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 204 S. Main St., Genoa, OH 43430. Interment will follow in the Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. Visitation will be in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St. from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2013. A Scripture Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening in the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kens name be directed to the church.
