Kenneth N Garn, Sr.

Kenneth N. Garn, Sr., 81, of Maumee, Ohio passed away Saturday, December 05, 2009 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born February 5, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio to Eleanor and Legarthus Garn. Ken served in the Navy from February 1946 to December 1947. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, liked to bowl, gardening and loved to play horseshoes. Ken was also a carpenter and worked for Dunbar Builders. He also worked for Swartzbaygh Manufacturing, H.C. Albring Co. in Toledo, OH. Ken worked for Seaway Foodtown in Maumee, Ohio in the warehouse, for 20 years, retiring February 28, 1990. Ken married the love of his life Phyllis Johnson, after dating her for 2 years and they were married for 59 years; also surviving, daughter, Patricia Ann Perry Phillips; son, Kenneth N. Diane Garn, Jr.; grandchildren, Autumn Phillips, Benjamin, Andrew and Elizabeth Grace Garn; sister, Deloros Turski, of Sylvania, OH, Jean Cotterman of Florida and Catherine Smith of Michigan; sister-in-law, Marjorie J. Johnston; brother-in-law, James H. Johnson; and his best friend Wayne Snyder of Maumee, OH. Ken was preceded in death by his father, Legarthus Garn; mother, Eleanor Garn; brothers, Lee Garn, and Art Garn. Family and friends may visit Monday, December 7, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
