Kenneth L. Dr. Akins

Dr. Kenneth L. Akins, 81, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Home, Port Clinton, OH, surrounded by his loving family. Ken was born on June 09, 1932 in Akron, OH, the son of Quay and Bernice Bixler Akins. On September 19, 1959 in Louisville, OH, he married Naomi Thompson and she survives. Ken had his private practice from 1962 to 1996 and was the staff physician for Davis Besse Nuclear Power Station. He also was the Ottawa County Coroner from 1983 to 2000. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean War. Ken enjoyed photography, traveling, computer and music. He was the author of two books related to the history of Ottawa County and of Port Clinton Faith United Methodist Church. Ken was a member of the Oliver H. Perry Masonic Lodge #341 F. A.M. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Port Clinton, OH. Ken will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include: Loving Wife of 55 years: Naomi Akins; Daughter: Cynthia Joseph Thornton; Son: Gregory P. Michele Solarchick Akins; Grandchildren: Abby Rachel Thornton and Quay, Beckett Rhya Akins; Brothers: Donovan C. Jean Akins and James E. Marney Akins; Nephew: Thomas Jennifer Akins; Niece: Mary Beth Chris Colville; Great-Nieces: Caroline, Margaret Grace Akins. Ken was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be 2-4 6-8, Sunday, February 02, 2014 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Port Clinton, OH. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, February 03, 2014 in Faith United Methodist Church, Port Clinton, OH. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Ken may be given to Faith United Methodist Church.
