Kay Wurzelbacher

December 6, 1954 — August 3, 2020

Kay Wurzelbacher, 65, of Toledo, Ohio died Monday, August 3, 2020 in her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born Phyllis Kay Bloomfield, and always known as Kay, in Genoa, Ohio, the daughter of Hazel G. and Rhoda I. (Stevens) Bloomfield. She married the love of her life, Frank E. Wurzelbacher in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida on January 2, 1982, and he survives. Kay worked at the well known Schmucker's restaurant in Toledo for almost 32 years retiring due to her health. Kay was a loving wife and mother who cherished family above all else. She was very protective of her family and could be as tough as nails when she felt they were threatened. She taught her family about a good work ethic simply by her everyday life. Her children describe her as the "rock" of the family as she was always there to help and guide in difficult times. She enjoyed flower gardening, attending all of her family's sporting events and baking the best cookies. Kay was an avid bargain hunter and when she found that perfect item at the perfect price she was always "tickled pink". Kay is survived by her husband, Frank, sons, Joe (Katie) Wurzelbacher and Robert Wurzelbacher, grandchildren, Joey (Tori), Cody, Darren, Tori, Samantha, Henry and Sara, great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Colton and her siblings, Delores Hale, Hazel Irene Johnson, Leonard Bloomfield, John Bond and Alma Wolfe. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Emil and Earl Bloomfield, sister, Donna Spooneybarger and grandson, Derrick Wurzelbacher. Visitation for Kay will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St. Genoa, Ohio. Please note that masks and social distancing is required. A graveside service will be conducted in the Harris-Elmore-Union Cemetery, Elmore, Ohio, at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday following the visitation.
