PERRYSBURG, OH - Kay Louise Magnusson passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, November 19, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer. Kay was born June 14, 1943, in Lansing, Michigan. She graduated from Williamston High School, Williamston, Michigan, Class of 1961. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Arlene Gallap of East Lansing, and by the love of her life, Erik Joe Magnusson, of Rockford, Illinois. She enjoyed using her grand creativity in crafting, photography (like her dad) and writing. When she was living in South Carolina, Kay once photographed the effects of approaching hurricanes that just missed the Grand Strand. Kay had an unending love of all things: MSU Spartans, Detroit Lions and her beloved Detroit Tigers. She loved her family unconditionally and had a direct impact on the kind of people they have become-children, grandchildren, spouses and extended family. She never failed to make friends with neighbors in Perry, Michigan, and Perrysburg, Ohio. Kay is survived by her three loving daughters, Laurie Ann Kalmbach (Doug), Christina Jo Cooper (Terry) and Erika Lynn Shaffer (Jeff); her adoring grandchildren, Courtney and Samantha Kalmbach, Tyler, Tasha and Erik Maiville, Cayley Jo Higbee, and Joseph and Parker Monroe. She is also survived by her brother, Guy Gallap (Ann) of East Lansing and sister, Tina Abbruzzese Davis Rathbun Gallap of Mason, as well as nieces and nephew, Kimberly Boldt-Moore (Denny), Yvette Gallap, Teresa Abbruzzese Rapp and Tony Abbruzzese (Sara). Her very dear aunt survives her, Char Engstrom, from Arizona, where Kay once lived and loved the Native American culture. Her family plans to honor her memory by gathering as many friends and family as possible on an early spring game at the Detroit Tigers. Kay appreciated the help, support, visits and encouragement that she received in these most recent weeks. Thank you to Heartland of Perrysburg and St. Lukes Hospital for their compassionate, constant loving and professional care and empathic support for Kay and her family. Donations in memory of Kay may be given to operationhomefront.org. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, OH 43430. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
