Kathryn A. Prokup, 78, of Perrysburg, OH died Friday, August 10, 2018, peacefully at home in her sleep as she would have wanted. She was born to John and Ann Smolenski in Toledo, OH on February 14, 1940, and married the love of her life John J. Prokup Jr. on September 27, 1958, in Toledo, OH after graduating from Central Catholic High School. Kathy always told her grandchildren she was “the luckiest grandma in the whole wide world,” but friends, family, and all who knew her came to realize they were the lucky ones touched by her gracious outgoing personality, kindness, and love. Christmas was her favorite holiday, not only because of her spectacularly decorated tree and a visit from Santa himself but as a special time for her ever-growing family to be together. She proudly referred to herself as “a strong Polish woman” and persevered through the difficult loss of her husband John in 2005. Kathy enjoyed interior design and continued working as a design consultant at Ethan Allen in Perrysburg, OH up to the time of her passing. She will fondly be remembered as generous, eternally elegant, and beautiful. Kathy was a wonderful woman that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished, especially by her five sons: Steve and Chaoran of Chicago, IL, Jim and Lisa of West Bloomfield, MI, Rick and Chris of Perrysburg, OH, John and Jen of Waterville, OH and Jeff of Perrysburg, OH; grandchildren: Christopher and Michelle, Sara, Alex, Cason, Alaina, Evan and Angella, Drew, Lauryn, Katie, Austin, Andrea, Nick, Morgan, and Jake; great-grandchildren: Henry, Oliver, and Florence; sister Mary Beth and Gary Hammond, in-laws Dick and Marilyn Prokup of Dallas, TX and Char and Cliff Porter of Westerville, OH; and many adored nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sis-ter Jane and just recently brother Jack. Friends will be received from 1-8 pm on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front Street, Perrysburg, OH, 43551. Burial will follow in Fort Meigs Union Cemetery.
