Kathleen A. Shermeta

Kathleen A. Shermeta, 79, of Lambertville, Michigan passed away suddenly Friday, July 01, 2016 at the Toledo Hospital. She was born in Mansfield, Ohio on November 7, 1936 to Paul and Gretchen (Rike) Hammond. Kathleen received her Bachelors of Education from The Ohio State University and enjoyed teaching. She married Clarence “Bud” Stephens and together they raised their family until his passing in 1993. She once again found love and married Dr. Dennis Shermeta where they enjoyed life until he passed in 2010. Kathleen was a devoted member of Northwest Christian Church in Temperance, MI. She was very social and loved playing cards especially bridge. She was an avid fan of Ohio State Football and loved Northern Michigan and spending time on Lake Huron. Kathleen was a past president of the Toledo Women’s Club and current president of Questers. She also sang with the Toledo Choral Society. Kathleen was a generous and caring woman and will be greatly missed. Kathleen is survived by her children, Shelley S. (Randy) Pryka of Perrysburg, OH., Melissa K. (Darrell) Fortner of Erie, MI., Molly A. (Paul) Mullins of Batavia, IL., Clay S. (Ann) Stephens of Dublin, OH.; grandchildren, Alexis (Derrick) Austin, Geoffrey (Amanda) Pryka, Caleb Fortner, Leah (Jon) Blewitt, Blake (Melia) Mullins, Hayden (Sydney) Pryka, Caitlin Mullins, Rourke Mullins, Spencer Stephens and Cole Stephens; great grandchildren, Raymond Pryka, Arden Mullins and three on the way; sisters, Judy (Jack) Saporta and Suzanne (Rube) Bailey; brothers, Hank (Della) Hammond and Pete (Brenda) Hammond; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and brother, Bill Hammond. Friends will be received at Witzler Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH. (419-874-3133) on Friday, July 15, 2016 from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM with a memorial service to begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Support Homeless Veterans.
